Winona-Ryder

Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born at Winona Minnesota. Her parents, Winona Ryder's parents, gave her the name of the town she grew up in. Michel Horowitz was her father and Cynthia Palmer, his mother was both an author as well as editors. Ryder's dad was born into an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. She is also half-sister to Sunyata Jubal. Her older sibling is Uria. Ryder moved with her family to Mendocino County California at the age of seven. They lived in a place without electric power. There was no television books were Ryder's only distraction to spend the time and she was a voracious reader. Ryder started to take acting classes at American Conservatory Theatre when she turned 12 years old. In 1986 she landed her first role on the big screen in the movie Lucas she was only fifteen years old. Ryder suffered from bullying throughout high school. She hoped that her acting career would alter that. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. It didn't stop her from pursuing dreams. Her breakthrough came through Tim Burton's Beetlejuice in 1988. Ryder continued to play successful roles in a variety of films. In 1993 Ryder was twice nominated in the Academy Awards. One of the nominations was for her part In The Age of Innocence.
